Do you like fast food? Ordinary people often use fast food when they cannot eat healthy meals in their busy lives. So am I. But we also know that eating fast food often is bad for health.
Anyway, studies have shown that fast food also affects depression this time According to a study by the University of Alabama in the U.S., teenagers can become depressed if they eat more fast food and less vegetables.
The researchers studied 84 middle school students, 95 percent of them African-Americans from low-income families. They ran urine tests, measured sodium levels and potassium levels, and analyzed the relationship between the levels and symptoms of depression.
The results showed that higher sodium levels and lower potassium levels showed more severe depression.
This means that eating unhealthy foods with high sodium and low potassium may contribute to the development of adolescent depression.
In fact, this is not the first study to show that fast food can cause depression.
Stephen Bradburn, a researcher at the Bioscience Research Center at the University of Manchester in the U.K., published in the international journal Clinical Nutrition last year, also found that eating a lot of fast food may cause depression.
Studies at the time show that people who eat foods with high Dietary Inflammatory Index (DII) overall are 40% more likely to be diagnosed with depression or suffer from depression than those who eat less.
"This study shows that avoiding inflammatory foods can help prevent depression," Bradburn said. "Anti-inflammatory diet with high levels of fiber, unsaturated fats and vitamins (especially A, C, D) can help treat depression."
