Enjoying tea can be helpful to brain health

Do you like Tea? I like it quite a bit. I start my day by drinking a cup of tea every morning. Especially, I like milk tea. By the way, did you know that drinking tea from time to time can not only prevent brain health, but also prevent aging-related brain functions?

The study was published in Aging. (Habitual tea drinking modulates brain efficiency: evidence from brain connectivity evaluation).

Led by researchers from the National University of Singapore, a joint team of researchers from Cambridge and Essex University in the U.K. conducted the study on 36 Singaporeans aged 60 or older.

The team examined how much tea the subjects drank and had them undergo cognitive tests and MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) tests.

Studies have shown that people who have drunk green tea, tea, oolong tea, and coffee more than four times a week for 25 years are well-connected.

"To paraphrase road traffic, it's the road that connects the brain region," Dr. Feng Lei said. "If the transportation system is in place, it's the road that connects the brain area. It's very efficient to process information if the network is well organized between the brain areas."

"The results of the study show that drinking tea plays a positive role in the brain's structure," he said. "It also prevents aging-related brain function from being reduced."
